This was the 8th time I’ve run the Hadleigh 10. The first was 2007. I had to forgo my entry last year because I was still suffering with my foot after breaking it in September.
I’ve had a love hate relationship with it. Love the event and the route and the distance, but have always hate the weather. I always joke that it’s not Hadleigh 10 if we’re not running through massive puddles and minor floods with rain and bitter cold temperatures. Today however, was not any of that. It was a gorgeous sunny autumn day. The roads were still muddy, but it was vest and shorts and not very significant wind speeds. Great organisation and lots of Striders doing either the original 10 miler or the more recent 5 miler.
As with the Scenic 7 the the week before I finished disappointed. Again, in hindsight I shouldn’t have been. As usual I hadn’t looked up previous times on the course before hand. I’d had a 1:17:something in my mind for a previous attempt and when I crossed the line in 1:19:17 I was disappointed. However, now looking back on previous times, today was my 2nd fastest time there. I was disappointed not have a better finish position. I’m told I’m too hard on myself, but that’s the nature of being competitive in running.
Result: 1:19:17. 96th out of 275 overall. 4th in age category out of 17. 15th female out of 113.
